About this Gallery of work

The following selection of illustrations are a mix of different types of media. Mainly, watercolor and another medium to enhance the expression I'm wanting to achieve. I just love the way watercolor takes on a life of it's own once it leaves my brush. And the colors are so beautiful!  I intend to expand on two of my techniques in the following paragraphs....

Ransom Note Watercolors

These fun and expressive pieces are ink and wash paintings of various animals combined with collage. More specifically, ransom note style collage explaining one interesting or surprising fact of the creature depicted. The originals are typically 5"x 7" on watercolor paper. One example is below  and to the left.

Ink and Wash

My ink and wash pieces are first drawn in ink with a calligraphy pen. Then watercolors are applied loosely to enhance the subject. Some are done on watercolor paper such as the Girl & Rabbit series. The Great White Egret ( seen below) is done on Yupo. This gives it that wild loose effect that is crazy bright and eye-catching.
